England international Emile Heskey has admitted that he is contemplating a move away from Villa Park, in a bid to secure a spot in England’s 2010 World Cup squad.
Emile Heskey has come out to say that he would consider leaving Aston Villa, if he is not given a regular starting position. Heskey is hoping to make England manager Fabio Capello’s squad and wants regular game time to prove his worth. This comes after Capello stated that he will select his World Cup squad based on players that play regularly for their club sides, which jeopardises Heskey’s chances.
The former Liverpool striker hit form a couple of season ago with Wigan Athletic, where he caught the attention of a couple of clubs but he choose to reunite with his former manager at Leicester, Martin O’Neil. Heskey has struggled a lot this season: Finding it hard to crack into the starting line-up and not finding the back of the net so far this season.
"I'm happy to be playing for England and, obviously, not playing at club level is difficult. I don't know whether I can get a World Cup place if I'm not playing for Villa. I just have to keep performing well in training and keep going. But you always wonder about those kind of things, whether it will affect my chances,” said Heskey.
